Douglas Fir

Species

Douglas Fir
Scientific name: Pseudotsuga menziesii
Douglas Fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) is a high-performing softwood species widely recognized for its structural integrity and aesthetic appeal. It is characterized by a straight grain, warm reddish tone, and exceptional strength-to-weight ratio. Its natural properties make it ideal for load-bearing, interior finish, and engineered applications.
Good To Know
  • Douglas Fir is a preferred choice in timber framing, millwork, structural beams, and window/door stock due to its strength and stability. Coastal varieties are denser and heavier than Inland types. For exterior use, treatment is recommended due to moderate decay resistance.
